About Koh Phangan

Koh Pha-ngan has always been a beautiful and spiritual place for Thai People. It has been visited by four Kings of Thailand, with the Great Rama V coming over 10 times, leaving his royal seal engraved on a rock at Than Sadet Waterfall; and the current King Bhumibol followed inhis footsteps. The island was uninhabited until about 600 years ago when passing monks realized its tranquility and spiritual importance and settled in Wat Phu Khao Noi just outside Thongsala. It is Thailand's fifth biggest island and has an area of 167 km , Over 90% of Phangan remains unspoilt tropical forest and due to its granite structure, there are several small mountains where it's possible to trek and camp. An abundance of wildlife from monkeys to birds as well as an amazing underwater world the surrounds Koh Phangan with over 10 kms of vibrant coral reef and 20 interesting dive sites. And if you have the energy and spent on Adventure, there is the nightlife that is internationally famous, the globally renowned Full Moon Party not to mention weekly outdoor events in the jungle and our beachfront venues.

Coral life may also be seen along the shores of the island especially in Ao Hat Lat, Laem Sri Thanu, Ban Tai, Hat Rin, Laem Ta To, Koh Ma, and Koh Tae Nai. Opposite Ao Thong Sala, the tiny islet of Koh Tai Nai offers a variety of spectacular coral life.

When visiting temples, please respect the Buddhist and Thai culture and remember always wear a shirt that covers your shoulders and shorts past your knees. Do not wear shoes or headwear in the temples and never point your feet or touch the head of any Thais, especially a Monk ( sit cross legged ). Woman cannot touch monk, so if you wish to pass anything, do it via a male friend or put it next to the monk with your right hand.

Wat Pho ( South West )

Wat Pho is located at the start ( and level section ) of the Bai Tai to Thong Nai Pan Road where the monk operate a traditional herbal steam sauna.
